"A debate on the Veto Power of the Security council - Part 1" By. P. BABU MANOHARAN.

Introduction: Definitely the VETO power enjoyed by the 5 Permanent Members of the Security Council of the United Nations is really the most powerful political power enjoyed  and exercised under the sun as on now. This Veto power has given those 5 permanent Members of the Security Council a special status, strength  and place among the nations of the  world.. The part played those P5 Nations  deserves sincere, serious,  unbiased and balanced scrutiny ,inspection, introspection, dissection and analysis by the residents of the world, basically the Veto power enjoyed by P5 privileged powerful  does not go with the basic principle of democracy.

The Veto Power of the P5 ::  The Veto Power of  the 5 Permanent Member Countries  of the Security Council of the United Nations,  deserves and demands,  a thought provoking thorough study , systematic scrutiny, and  political analysis  in the interest of the whole humanity. Power regulates , power controls , power governs  , power guides , power leads and power saves . Man can not be governed without power , actions of  the countries can not be regularized without power. Man's political wisdom has understood the need for a controlling power in the form of Veto Power. An average man out of ignorance and due to fanaticism  fights with his fellow man and in the same way countries are also fighting with each  other. If  a county's action becomes a direct  or indirect threat to the world peace , then that situation needs a powerful political intervention and this job is done by the security Council's Permanent Member Countries. Our point of order is that only the Permanent 5 Members of the Security Council enjoy and exercise the Veto power, not all the members of the Security Council. While using the Veto Power that single Nation enjoys the power of the entire  rest of the wold  . Why this partiality , what is the justice , purpose and political principle for this peculiar and unique system  of partiality and undemocratic privilege . we need the Veto power but it need to be democratized  and all the members of the Security Council should be given the VETO power . But can we do that ? If so who will do that  and how can it be  done ? these are the vital and crucial questions that deserve wise answers. sharp political approaches  and  right solutions.

All the Members of the Security Council should have Veto Power ? : Of course these Powerful 5 Permanent Members[P5] of the Security Council will not like to share  their prerogative power and privileged status  with the non permanent members of the Security Council  . This is the crux of the problem. definitely on various occasions  the Veto Power used  by these P5 nations have played valuable roles for the cause of global peace .If we analyse both merits and demerits of the Veto Power of the P5 Nations we can boldly and intellectually say that  Veto Power is the most wisest political invention of the greatest political minds. All the members of any Forum should have equal privilege and rights , this is an universal principle and stand , but this universal principle is  not  followed in the Security Council. Then what is use of non Permanent members in the Security Council . According to me all the members of the Security Council should have the Veto Power or else there is no need for  Non- Permanent members in the Security Council.. We need to have a global level intellectual and political debate in this regard.

CONCLUSION : To play a better and meaningful  role for the cause of world security and peace, the newly emerging powerful nations must be made Permanent Members in the Security Council of  UN, for example nations like India and Brazil etc must be accommodated as Permanent Members of the Security Council  . Such type of steps,accommodation and political will ,will strengthen  the Security Council's moral , political  and defensive strength  in many ways. Wise representations , reasonable representations and rightful right  representations of people's power through the representative nations'  participation  in the Security Council, will surely  take the  Security Council of the UN, to new meaningful and peaceful  heights. This political proposal  also needs  a fresh sincere global debate, initiative and  political decision. It is a sensitive, intricate and heavy weight  global  political issue, that can not be easily solved, but we can not say that  it is not at all possible

The World Needs a New Political Reformation and Renaissance.

Introduction  Jealousy is one of the most dominant factors that spreads hatred, malice, misunderstanding, prejudice and  incites quarrel between men , fight between communities , battles between countries  and war between Super Powers. Among the jealousies, social jealousy, economic jealousy  are the crucial contributing forces of political jealousy . Political Jealousy is  the root cause for  political  parties' in-fights, communal altercations, political misunderstanding and battles between countries. Jealousy is an inherent part of human mind  and that is the most powerful agent of  malice, hatred and vengeance.

Social Jealousy:  All of us know that man is a social animal and to be more accurate we can say that man is a selfish animal . The social animal like man wants to possess every thing  that  is great , glorious, beautiful, influential, advantageous ,prosperous and powerful,for himself alone if not completely, he longs to have more than others. The moment others start to become  as educated as him  , as  influential as him ,as  famous as him , as powerful as him,,  instantly his jealous heart is filled with the seeds of malice and hatred .And he starts to play all sorts of tricks and all  kinds of foul games to control the growth and progress of others. That creates communal clashes, unrest and riots and spoils the social harmony. Social jealousy  and religious jealousy, separately or unitedly divide the people into many hating groups and blocks. Any student of politics can very easily infer that the world is compartmentalized  on the basis of community, race and religion . In spite of all our scientific achievements both in the land and space, still the world is struggling to understand the difference between religious love and religious jealousy.Man is  still unable to love and forgive  his fellow human -beings.

Economic jealousy : Economic jealousy between communities , and countries creates confrontations between individuals, communities and countries.  It is a psychological problem, man's immaturity is the main cause of all types of jealousies including economic jealousy. This economic jealousy between communities is the main reason for the formation of many  regional political parties with  special objectives and selfish goals in many democratic countries. There need to be business competitions between and  among individuals, companies , corporations etc but it should not be a cut throat competition. Avarice for money corrupts human mind absolutely. This economic competition based on base jealousy,  forces them to follow many undemocratic and inhuman tricks to spoil another man's Business Estates and Companies, Corporations. Naturally  the business group or community supported by the ruling political party, uses their political hold and influences the high level Government officials to intimidate the rivalry business houses with the help of police threatening , income tax raid etc. Economic power is very powerful, now-a-days it controls and wields power on  the Legislative, Executive and Judicial wings of the  Government throughout the world. . The powerful business houses generally  hire highly talented lawyers  to represent their causes in the Courts of Law, to escape from big Scams. Now-a-days judicial judgement depends upon the brilliant arguments and presentations  of the lawyers rather than the weight of real justice. and  truth . Out of jealousy  business tycoons plans to curtail the prospect of growth of their rival business group,  and to actuate that selfish goal they  selectively support a promising political party  by donating  huge amount of election fund  and help the particular political party to capture the power to rule the nation. After  having placed their favorite political Party on the throne of power and governance, such parties trap the opposite  business corporations in intricate business traps with the help of  high power political and official  scheming and support. . Thus due to economic jealousy , the individual entrepreneur,  business houses  and corporations influence the Government and political parties in so many ways. to accomplish their selfish goals. There is a stark difference between economic competition and economic jealousy. Due to economic jealousy the businessmen , entrepreneurs, trade unions and politicians are divided into so many  compartments. Economic jealousy is not at all conducive to the economic growth of  nations. Economic jealousy is the cardinal reason for the  battle between  man and man, community and community, nation and nation etc.

Political Jealousy:  Political jealousy is the  result of social jealousy and economic jealousy. It is the main reason for the formation of  many regional and national political groups and parties with special open and hidden goals. Politicians in order to  defeat  their opposite politicians and  to please their business friends, follow many types of base political moves and policies.  Now- a- days majority of the political leaders are connected  with big business houses directly or indirectly. Many politicians are share holders in major  local and international business corporations  with help of trusted benamis and this seems to be an international phenomenon. So such type of politicians always with the help of  shrewd business policies bloc the business and industrial progress of up-coming small  scale industrialists and rival businessmen. The common man's interests  are hardly  heeded and cared by the political leaders because the commons are still  UKG political students only, they can not understand the hidden agenda and motives of the shrewd politicians The common man's innocence, expectations and trust on our political leaders and rulers , need to be answered with great pure selfless patriotism and love.

Conclusion; Selfless national interest must overcome  and overrule the selfish  personal interests . We are privileged to live in a beautiful world filled with flowers, birds , animals, tall mountains,deep valleys, moving streams , vast oceans and  precious human beings.  All of us are bound to protect the beauty, blessings and lives of this world. All of us including our political leaders, business leaders, social and religious leaders,law makers,judges,common man and soldiers,  throughout the world need to come out of  all kinds selfish jealousies. Mutual exploitation in any form will ultimately destroy and devastate our lives, generations, and our earth. The world needs  a new  Political Reformation  and Renaissance to protect  the planet  earth and the  lives on it .

Money , Knowledge ,Politics and World Peace

Introduction : Power creates power , power controls power, power needs power and power plays the game of world peace as per its choice, wish and strength.  For the sake and thirst for money, powerful political leaders and  nations discard  and disrespect world peace .Right from individuals  up to  governments all entities love power and long for power. For, power gives joy, strength, superiority and control over others and resources.. Of course there are many variety of powers and among the powers,  money power, knowledge power and political power are three important powers that control the destiny of humanity today  positively and negatively.

Money Power and Politics: Now-a -days money power is used by the politicians to get political power. Practically it is not at all possible at present , to win a general election without the help of money power . Laws passed to control the influence of money  in the Legislative  Elections , have miserably failed to do their jobs. . Existing laws and administrative checks could not stop the influence of money power in the Legislative and Parliamentary  Elections . So  the people with  money power or  those candidates who are supported by people with money power alone can win the elections.Naturally our elected Legislators and Parliamentarians are under the influence of the rich people who supported them, with their money . It is said in these days of globalization , rich people, business tycoons  and  Multinational Corporations  of  local and foreign origin are wielding great power  and influence on the voters  so as to elect  the Political Representatives of their likes. Until and unless the voters are politically enlightened Politics can not be redeemed and saved from the clutches of the money power .Definitely people who spent money in the election will  play all kinds of political chess to get back their money ,automatically corruption enters in . We need to remember that  if the politicians who form the Government by the support of the Business magnets, fail to implement the policies and wishes of the business men or other rich men  , definitely such Governments  will be toppled or defeated by the business tycoons with the help of their money power in the next election . This is a stark reality in the present  day global political scenario. Who can save politics or political democracy from the power of money.? Elected political representatives should deal with all the people without favoritism arising above all petty narrow domestic walls.That is the hall mark of a matured patriotic politician.

Knowledge Power and Politics: Good people are nothing but puppets in the hands of the mighty people so says an adage.  Generally  people with shrewd and sharp intelligence or  knowledge with good speaking ability enter into politics,. Shrewd and knowledgeable  politicians use the money of the rich people to contest in the Legislative elections by giving many promises  to the supporter  or donor. The rich man is in  need of the knowledge power  of the knowledgeable people and knowledgeable people are in need of the money of the rich people . Thus this mutual dependence forms the backbone of electoral politics and activates the politics.Moreover the knowledgeable people control the media of their respective nations. Knowledgeable persons do have the flair, intellectual  resources and capacity to think analyse and write. And so they start Newspapers, Journals, and Magazines   to voice for their political social and business causes. Actually the knowledgeable persons with the help of their writings in the News  Papers and Magazines, sow, plant, create shape, guide and direct the political and social opinions of the nation ; in tune with their line of thinking and ideologies.  In short they  control the commanding heights of politics  and public opinion in par with the actual political rulers  and leaders of the nations. The  knowledgeable people with the help of their knowledge power and  Print and Electronic Media power, they make and demolish  national Governments.  There is always a silent invisible competition between the power of money and intellectual power , and always the persons with the power of knowledge have their upper hand over the rich people. It is quite obvious the knowledge power powerfully controls national and global  Politics with the help of money and strategy. Knowledge is  powerful so it should be  used wisely;  knowledge can be used for construction and also for destruction .  Knowledge is not bad by itself; but all depends upon how it is used and  that makes all the difference. Knowledge is generally selfish in nature . Who  can save politics rather democratic politics from the selfishness of knowledge? Unfortunately the tall  political  leaders  who make  tall political  claims and promises for the cause of the common man  are not sincere to help the common man.Because the rich politicians and the  educated politicians  are not  really interested to transfer the political power to the common man . Now we can say in  politics specially in a democracy ; money, and knowledge  singularly or jointly overpower of the common man's interest, political privileges  and political power  . Naturally ruling politicians want to keep the the common man under their control and influence as long as possible; so they do not want  the common man to progress quickly and to become a political threat to them.  In the same way  the powerful nations  want to keep other  less powerful nations under their control generally.

Money, Knowledge, Politics, and World Peace : Money , knowledge and politics, all these are revolving and evolving around the fulcrum of power and for power . And power helps the people to  acquire everything they want to have . The politicians spent  their money  and the intelligentsia use the Print and Electronic Media  to get  political power so that they can formulate suitable economic policies to accumulate wealth  at the expense of the common man ..Unfortunately the world has been divided into so many social segments , into so many communal compartments, into so many religious regiments, into so many racial groups, into so many economic orders , into so many political blocks and so on. Wealth is needed for everybody and every nation ; but no individual , group ,  business organisation country should follow unscrupulous and selfish ways and strategy to  accumulate wealth  at the cost another fellow citizen or nation. Greediness for wealth  is the basic base  root  cause for all hatred, cut throat competition,misunderstanding and disputes between human beings , communities , traders,business houses ,countries etc.

Conclusion:   Immediate and concrete steps should be taken by the governments  to eradicate illiteracy from the surface of the world to the maximum level, so as to  narrow the knowledge gap  between the human beings at the earliest.. Because a knowledgeable person is an enlightened person  and he can not be fooled and subjugated easily   A good  political system should liberate its citizens from all types of social, economic and  political chains and suppression.We need to have a new Global  Political Order or System  to live in this world happily and peacefully and  to leave a peaceful world to be inherited by our children and grandchildren.  We need new  mind maturity to make human civilization more  love oriented  and fellowship oriented .. We need selfless political leaders who can love all the citizens  and lead the people without discrimination and partiality.  Economic growth and political power  are  needed  but not at the cost of the social harmony, poor man's smile and another country's sovereignty.  We need  innovative political and economic thinking to solve all these problems and to establish universal political brotherhood. among people and nations.

POLITICAL TOLERANCE and DEMOCRACY

Introduction ::      Before proceeding further we are bound to define and explain the concept , "Political Tolerance". In a democracy every citizen  or every individual is free to have  his/her political opinion. Citizens are free to follow and  like any political party according to their individual mental choice and conviction , nobody should impose their political ideals and conviction on any body else. To make it clear even husbands should not impose their political ideals and preferences on their wives , fathers cannot impose their political will on their children and so on . Political parties should have the political maturity and mentality to face different political opinions of  opposite political parties . Every political leader and every political party will be adhering different political goals, targets , ideals  and ideology. Politicians should calmly, intelligently and with cool head face political challenges, opposite political views and defeat them in democratic way . We can call this quality of democratic approach as  Political Tolerance

Causes for political intolerance:  Practically  all the  politicians are after political power to impose their political conviction and political goal on their country men . So by any means  the political leaders  want to capture the political power to actuate their political targets and ideals. Political leaders are activated and motivated by their convictions and  as a corollary democracy is  pulled to different directions for different reasons. Now because of political intolerance of political leaders and rulers ,both democracy and  the democratic  countries  are passing through  very difficult  bottle necks and testing time . When power is transferred from the ruling Party into hands of their political opponents  through ballot papers ; it creates political frustrations in the minds of the rejected dominant  politicians. And such   politicians who are rejected by the people in the electoral system   purposely violates the civilized and established principles and norms of decent democracy.  Similarly the elected political party leaders also slowly and steadily want to impose and implement all their ideals and goals in the country by any means. After all the power to alter  and bring amendments lies  with the Parliament and Parliament is controlled the ruling political party.[ majority]. Fanatic attachment to political ideals and  ruthless thirst for  power, sow  the bitter seeds of intolerance in the minds of political thinkers and leaders and they  instead of opposing their political opponents within the constitutional limits ,start to hate their political opponents as enemies. This type of intolerant political approach shakes the very foundations of democracy and  denies the fruits of democracy guaranteed to the people by  the Constitutions of the respective countries.. The imperative responsibility of any government is to  follow  the constitution and protect the fundamental rights of the citizens. But majority in governing bodies /parliaments, in democracies  generally serves as opium and pollutes the political leaders with imbalances , over estimation and wrong  hasty political decisions. Always there is a  sharp and delicate difference between the spirit of the national  Constitutions and the policy of the ruling party.  When political leaders think that they can do anything with the help of majority in the national Parliament ,  then such attitude and approach create political uncertainties and law and order problem .   Some politicians are dominated by political ideas and few other political leaders are influenced by political ideologies and so on .Fanaticism in politics easily turns politicians as intolerant politicians , intolerance in politics turns politicians as power exploiters at the cost of decent democratic values.

Consequences of Political  Intolerance:   Political intolerance is the first enemy of democracy .Of all the rights,fundamental  human right is the most important right for any individual to live with personal dignity and liberty. Democracy safeguards citizens' fundamental freedom  and it should safeguard the human rights . In spite of all its minor drawbacks democracy is the best form government .  But the emergence of political intolerance will erode and corrupt  the firm bricks  and infrastructure  of democracy.  Fall  of democracy means the fall of freedom and liberty  of the common men . But definitely  political intolerance will devastate the the pillars  of democracy . The collapse of the democracy means the end of human freedom dignity, privileges, progress and liberty of  the common citizens. We can say human intelligence is  not wise enough to find out an alternative form of  Government to Democracy . Now-a-days political intolerance has become the order of  democracy.  Political intolerance is shaking the very foundation of democracies throughout the world. It is really  a serious problem, but unfortunately  political intolerance has been increasing day by day and  has been causing  many untoward disturbances and unrest and political and social pusillanimity  among the people . Political intolerance  is an invisible threat to internal peace of the concerned countries and also  it affects the  international political understanding and affinity. . Political intolerance blinds the political insight of the political leaders and spoil the reputation of the country in the international  world.. Political intolerance divides the citizens  into so many political groups and  spreads  hate  politics which   will consume the fundamental rights, privileges ,freedom and progress of the common people. Political intolerance is an invisible and serious threat to the national integrity of the nations.Unity of the people is the most lasting and powerful strength of the nations but unity of the people and political intolerance can not go together.

Conclusion: Political intolerance has become the very order of the global politics today . Political intolerance is a direct challenge and open threat to global peace and progress. Difference of political opinions are inevitable and they are the pillars  of democracy , provided the differences are expressed democratically and dealt  with democratically.. Internal peace and international peace , both are important for  national growth and global progress.  Political leaders should have real respect for the provisions and the spirit of their respective nations' Constitutions,.No political ideology is absolutely right, this real truth is a hard political pill to digest. Love for fellow country men , love for impartial service to humanity are the only available political solutions to redeem political leaders from political intolerance and  to save the Nations and  World from self destruction . Political Think Tanks should take more sincere efforts  to save democracy from the evils and adverse effects of intolerant politics by contributing new innovative ways to save democracy from political intolerance.
